Staying connected

  • Follow the resident's lead on communication frequency
  • Coordinate visits with the care team in advance
  • Send letters, photos, or small comforts from home
  • Be consistent — predictability is calming

Healthy boundaries

Recovery takes time. Try not to interpret setbacks as failure or progress as complete. Ask the care team what kind of involvement is most helpful at each stage.

Taking care of yourself

Caregivers need care, too. NAMI Oregon offers free family support groups and education across the state.

Not for Emergencies

Referral forms are not monitored for emergencies. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988.
